Company Bio:
Psychopomp Dance Theater is an LA based movement & performance company founded by Shenandoah Harris and includes an eclectic group of performers, makers and artisans in LA county. The company shares dance theater works that are grounded in viscerally athletic and ritualistic movement exploring modern day social issues through the structure of Jewish culture and thought. Psychopomp’s work pushes the limits of dynamically powerful athleticism and storytelling while remaining grounded in virtuosic dance technique through a commitment to physical and mental rigor. The movement style is rooted in complex floorwork, acrobatic parkour, authentic touch and spacious traveling techniques inspired by Limon technique. Psychopomp creates and shares the Jewish way, battling erasure & rebelling against privileging universal conforming belief systems in all forms. In all aspects of our work we act in Chevruta (partnership) with others, making accessible spaces at the table for everyone to participate in the creation, appreciation and discourse of art & movement.
