Peter Hager - MARATHON: A Double Feature
An evening of new sounds + collisions. "Marathon: Muscles of Destiny" is a murderously dark comic opera—an irreverent remix of Greek myth with razor-sharp humor. Then "Sending // Receiving" arrives, a sonic system riffing on shipping and exchange, with three ensembles performing in chaotic harmony.

About The Event
A double feature of contemporary opera from LA’s young experimental community.
Marathon: Muscles of Destiny irreverently flips the Greek mythology script on its head—after dropping it in a pitch-black green room. The original Marathon runner Pheid’s path to godhood devolves into a squabble among the gods of Olympus over who gets to write his name into history. They pit clone against clone in an endless tournament—until one Pheid breaks the cycle with a murderous drive for victory atop his muscles of destiny. It’s up to Hermes and his trusty ally, Plato the Platonic Pheid, to keep the race from ending the wrong way. Featuring Nelle Anderson, Mikaela Elson, Jaz Jendersee, Menghe Jing, Elliot Menard, and Abigail Whitman.
Sending // Receiving reimagines the global flow of goods, people, and ideas as sound. Three ensembles perform simultaneously under separate conductors, creating a living system of music about movement, exchange, and the modern shipping age. With vocals by Nelle Anderson, Mikaela Elson, Jaz Jendersee, Menghe Jing, Elliot Menard, and Abigail Whitman.
