G.U.M. Collective - calling from the void

Sometimes life can feel like you’re stuck in your own echo chamber.  One in which all our emotions converge, bringing up more questions than answers and leaving us to find meaning in the chaos.

calling from the void, serves as a portal to this chaotic world where we all experience absurd contradictions, the complexities of the human condition, and grapple with life’s toughest questions. Presenting how we deal with them, decode them, and ultimately move through them.

Founded in 2020 by Artistic Director Genna Moroni, Gorgeous Ugly Movement (G.U.M.) Collective offers a space for dance artists to explore their range of self expression and storytelling through movement. Each process begins from an honest desire to understand and represent unique voices and talented individuals. A vocabulary developed through collaboration, curiosity, play and willingness is what has brought us here tonight.

Principal Artists:

Genna Moroni is a choreographer, dancer and teacher raised in LA. She kicked off her career in 2010 performing Barak Marshall’s works with BODYTRAFFIC before joining Ate9 Dance Company as a founding member from 2012-2019. Beyond the world of concert dance, Genna has been fortunate to transition her talents to the world of commercial film/stage working with a top lineup of musicians and actors. Apart from her work as a dancer and choreographer, Genna has a deep connection to sharing movement and dance with all people. Genna serves on faculty at Cal Arts for theater students and in the LA community as a Dance Church teacher. G.U.M. Matt Starr Spicer is a strange creative being - a writer, laugh maker, and half of directing duo MAMA. With a penchant for finding the absurd in any situation and constantly in his own head about the meaning of life, it only made sense that Matt write and voice the Void in this piece.
