About The Event

An evening of live performance and video depicting the Seven Elements:

Air, Earth, Fire, Metal, Water, Wood, and the Void.

Utilizing universal archetypal mythologies and legends, they accentuate the symbiotic and collaborative kinship of society and nature and our impact on the eco-system.

The live, theatrical show will be accompanied by an installation in the gallery displaying props, set pieces, costumes, sketches, performance photos and general ephemera.

Hibiscus TV is the convergence of two artistic minds: Amy Kaps and Kaye Freeman.  They approach serious subject matter with irreverence, humor, and emotional nuances.  Celebrating the imperfect in a world that demands perfection, they intentionally challenge the notions dictating what female artists over sixty can or should do. Their content addresses climate change, consumerism, ageism and inclusivity in a relatable, yet deeply moving and intelligent fashion by referencing a variety of mythologies accessed by our varied backgrounds.

Free from convention, Hibiscus TV is a platform for unbridled creativity. Grounded in the absurd and authentic expression, they explore infinite possibilities. Each film or performance has minimal to zero narrative and, although topic based, is beyond meaning, definition and time. They accompany the viewer into another plane of consciousness. Creating their own environments, costumes, props, puppets and sounds according to each theme, Hibiscus TV is committed to using recycled and repurposed materials whenever possible.  The work is about the world we inhabit materially and metaphysically.  A conversation between art and environment takes place as we witness phenomenal technological developments and exponential damage caused in our lifetime. Through the study of Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Science and Philosophy, we uncover the commonalities uniting us as a species.
