For those of you who are keeping track, Highways is now eighteen.
As Highways comes of age as the most fearless performance space in town, we reaffirm our commitment to Highways’ mission: to give voice to ever-broadening ranges of communities through performance and visual arts. In giving voice to our communities, we seek to nurture the sort of political, social, and psychological dialogue that can effect progressive change in our society. You make that possible! Thank you!

With your help, eighteen has been a marvelous year. We produced over a hundred performances, exhibits, and classes in the last year. We hosted four new festivals, explored new works with our Guest Curator Series, and experienced a renaissance of new workshops with internationally renowned teachers. In addition to presenting astonishing new dance, we renewed our commitment to the dance community by purchasing 64 lighting instruments from the Ambassador Hotel’s Coconut Grove nightclub—an investment that considerably enhances our flexibility and production values. The lights of the Ambassador’s Coconut Grove that shone on Garland, Streisand and Minnelli will now bathe Highways’ performers in their warm glow.

Let’s keep up the momentum! The coming year promises exciting possibilities. While continuing to develop and present new works and to serve our communities, we also plan to honor our history by transforming Highways Gallery II in to the Highways Archival Gallery displaying the history and evolution of the space. Also, there will be an expanded use of the Main Gallery as a gathering space for spoken word, readings and music. We also plan to upgrade Highways’ infrastructure by replacing the Main Gallery’s lighting grid and concession areas, to increasing the number of cushioned seats and refurbishing our black curtains.

You, our audience and members, are our most important resource. For your generous tax-deductible membership donation, we would like to honor you by adding your name to a Highways-commissioned work by assemblage artist Cindy DeSantis to be displayed in the lobby following the fund drive. We’re calling it The Wall of Lights.

No contribution is too small or too large. Highways is for everyone and we are so grateful for your continuing support!
